Do not adjust your screen. What you are seeing is the actual neon red color of the Maine red hot dog. The green spears are (out of season!) asparagus. The contrast is...amazing.
I saw some Boy Scouts selling these dogs at a boat building contest in Belfast, ME and thought they were fake at first. When I realized they were real Maine red hot dogs - dyed red, all-pork dogs with natural casings - I was taken aback and needed to find out more. There's interesting research and discussion around the language 'Red Snapper' (think color and the snapping sound of a natural casing as its bitten) and the story of the Maine red hot dog here.
If I read things correctly, it appears that Schonland's, one of the two great Maine dog brands (the other is Jordan's, which went out of business in 2004 after Tyson Foods, their owner, closed down the plant and distribution facility) have been made in Boston since 1987 by Kayem Foods. Fancy that.
